2024 Training Schedule

This 8-hour training was developed by Friends of Recovery NY, Rhoades to Recovery and Erin Wiggins, CRPA in order to provide tools and resources to the helping workforce as well as family members caring for loved ones impacted by addiction/recovery.

Those of us working in the helping profession as well as other caregivers, often struggle with our own self-care and wellness.  Most "wellness" trainings focus on the potential problems associated with not taking care of oneself when helping others.  While these are important to understand, this training will not only explore the issues of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, stress and burnout, it will offer many practical and easily adaptable wellness solutions so that we can balance our helping roles with our professional and personal wellness and growth.

Participants will:

  1. Gain an understanding of the challenges of caring for people with addiction; identify and validate experiences and explore obstacles to self-care and wellness.
  2. Understand the importance, benefits and personal responsibility of helper wellness.
  3. Define and explore the components of wellness (8 dimensions of).
  4. Create a Personal Responsibility/Wellness/Self-Care plan.
  5. Be able to identify and practice at least 3 specific wellness techniques.
  6. Develop accountability strategies and plan.
  7. Gain understanding of necessary adjunct assistance, support and resources.
