The Impact of Opioid/SUD Overdose Loss

This training is facilitated live or virtually via Zoom.  Deb Rhoades will deliver this 8-hour training. For Zoom trainings, participants must have access to both audio and video connection and must fully participate.


This Rhoades to Recovery Training is approved through 4/2024 by ASAP-NYCB for CRPA and CARC Continuing Education renewal hours and CARC Elective (Initial Certification). It is also approved by OASAS for CASAC, CPP and CPS Renewal Hours.  Social Work Continuing Education hours are available upon request.

This 8 hour training is designed to address traumatic Opioid/Substance Use Overdose loss and its impact on the behavioral health workforce (Addiction Treatment/Prevention Professionals, Mental Health professionals and Peer Recovery Professionals.)


During this training participants will:

  1. explore the scope of the Opioid/SUD overdose problem
  2. learn overdose prevention/risk management and postvention strategies
  3. develop an understanding of grief and traumatic loss impact and the types of grief/losses including disenfranchised grief and factors that impact grief reactions.
  4. explore the impact of these losses on clinicians and peer professionals and provide an understanding of compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout.
  5. develop strategies to increase self-compassion, self-care/wellness and will provide participants with a variety of tools that they can bring back to their work settings.
